Types of Car Insurance

Comprehensive cover

Fully comprehensive car insurance offers the maximum level of cover for you and your vehicle as well as other people on the road. That means you'll be covered if your vehicle is damaged in an accident - or if it's deliberately damaged by somebody else.

You'll also be covered for road accidents, fire, theft, medical expenses, glass replacement and claims made against you by third parties.

It could cost you less then you'd expect too, if you search our panel of competitive car insurers.

We're proud to provide comprehensive car insurance that can come with a wide range of benefits, including:

  • Free cover to drive in Europe
  • A guaranteed courtesy car if you need it
  • Loss or damage cover for any belongings inside your vehicle
Third party fire and theft

Third party fire and theft from Think Insure could cover you if:

  • You damage another vehicle - and it's your fault
  • You damage someone else's property - and it's your fault
  • You injure someone in an accident
  • Your vehicle is stolen
  • Your vehicle is damaged by fire

If you're looking for this type of cover it might be worth comparing the price with a comprehensive policy.

You may be able to get a higher level of cover for less than you'd think.

Third party car insurance

You must have at least third party motor insurance to drive in the UK.

It's the most basic level of cover. If your road use causes damage to property or injures other road users, your third party insurance should cover the cost of putting things right.

Third party car insurance does not pay out if your car is stolen or damaged.

Breakdown cover

You can buy two types of breakdown cover from Think Insure:

Roadside & local. £3.71 per month (£36.31 a year)

If you break down in your local area - further than one mile away from your home - we'll provide recovery to a local garage for your vehicle, yourself and up to six passengers.

National. £7.43 per month (£72.63 a year)

This type of cover includes the same benefits as our 'roadside and local' cover, as well as:

  • Transport for your onward journey - or back home - if you break down
  • Breakdown cover within a mile of your home
  • A payment of up to £40 per passenger for overnight accommodation if you need it
  • A hire vehicle for up to 24 hours
  • An emergency driver if you are unable to continue on your journey due to an injury or illness.

Frequently asked questions

Have you got any questions about car insurance?

Have a look at whether they've been answered in our car insurance FAQs.

Which kind of car insurance should I choose?

It's recommended that you get as much cover as possible for what you can afford. That's why it's important to shop around and compare quotes, so you're getting as much cover as possible for your money. An insurance agent at Think Insure can help you if you have any questions.

Does age affect car insurance premiums?

Young and new drivers may find car insurance more expensive.

This is because, statistically speaking, young drivers are one of the riskiest groups on the road. That's why it's

especially important to compare quotes and try to find the best deal possible.

Can I get cover to drive other cars?

If you buy comprehensive cover from Think Insure and you are over the age of 25, it is likely that you will be able to get third party cover to drive cars that do not belong to you - with the driver's permission, of course.

Can I drive abroad?

Comprehensive cover from Think Insure includes free European cover, so you'll be able to drive your car on the continent at no extra cost.

However, if you're looking to go a bit further afield you'll need to arrange something with your insurer.

What is a No Claims Bonus?

A No Claims Bonus or No Claims Discount is awarded to

you by your insurer if you haven't had to claim on your car insurance for a certain length of time.

Your insurer will usually reduce the cost of your policy - as it proves that you're a careful driver.

The longer you don't claim for, the lower your premiums could be.

What is a voluntary excess?

When you buy a car insurance policy, you can choose a voluntary excess.

This is an amount you'll pay when you need to make a claim.

If you choose a high voluntary excess, your monthly premiums may be cheaper - but ensure that you would definitely be able to afford to pay this amount yourself when needed.
